The Uttar Pradesh government has undertaken various schemes to improve sewerage and municipal drainage systems across 734 municipal bodies.
Municipal Drainage.
There are total 734 municipal local bodies in the state, in which, the current status of water harvesting system is as follows: -

Geographical location of Jhansi is not good for sewer network.
Sewer system is partially available in all the above 65 cities and action is being taken to provide complete sewerage system.

State Sector Program
Against a total of 31 water harvesting schemes till March 2022, financial sanctions of Rs. 758.47 crore have been issued by the government. Out of which, the entire work of 17 schemes has been completed and the work of remaining 14 schemes is in progress. Against Rs.658.07 crore released from the government, Rs.583.87 crore has been spent.

Till March 2022, against a total of 25 drainage schemes, Rs. 244.20 crore financial sanctions have been issued by the government. The work of 12 schemes has been completed and the work of remaining 13 schemes is in progress. Against Rs 233.55 crore released from the government, Rs 199.30 crore has been spent.

Eligibility criteria vary based on specific schemes and projects within each municipal body.

    Municipal bodies liaise with UP Jal Nigam for the implementation of schemes. Projects are proposed, approved, and monitored by designated committees at the state level.

The Sewerage evam Jal Nikasi aims to provide basic services like sewerage, to urban households as a national priority.

The Uttar Pradesh Jal Nigam, as designated by government orders, is responsible for executing sewerage and drainage projects across municipal bodies.

Municipal bodies liaise with UP Jal Nigam to propose and implement projects under various schemes. Detailed project proposals are submitted to the respective state-level committees for approval.
